Post-Concussion and Traumatic Brain Injury
Post-concussion syndrome is a mild form of traumatic brain injury which is typically caused by a blow to the head or with violent shaking or movements of the head. Approximately 15% of individuals who suffer from a single concussion will experience persistent symptoms associated with their concussion. These symptoms can last for a period of months or even years, in some cases.The symptoms and severity of the symptoms vary greatly from person to person in those who suffer from concussions. Typically, post-concussion symptoms include:
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Irritability
- Anxiety
- Dizziness
- Vertigo
- Loss of attention and memory
- Vision difficulty and blurry vision
- Ringing in the ears
- Auditory processing difficulties
- Sound and light sensitivity
- Difficulty with speech in noise
Concussion Assessments Protocol
At AudioSense, we are one of the only clinics in Canada that has developed an assessment protocol and management therapies to help our patients who suffer from concussion and experience auditory difficulties.Many of our patients indicate to us it can be quite difficult to function in their day to day lives following a concussion, and we understand how debilitating, frustrating and scary this must feel. We see both children and adults for our concussion services, and have had success with helping our patients cope with their symptoms of sound sensitivities and management their other struggles of hearing in noise, auditory memory, auditory attention, etc… There are not many clinics in Canada who work routinely with individuals who suffer from concussion, but we have developed this as a unique and specialized service offering.Finally, if you’ve suffered from a concussion as a result of a workplace injury or a motor vehicle accident, then we will coordinate with your insurance and lawyer (if you have on), in order to advocate for your needs and try to have your appointments with us be covered by your insurer.
