Bone Anchored Hearing Devices

Bone anchored hearing devices are hearing aids where an internal piece, which comprises either a small titanium rod, called an abutment, or a magnet is implanted inside the skull by an Otolaryngologist. Then, a small processor is attached to the outside of the skull. This processor picks up sounds from the environment, much like a traditional hearing aid would, and transmits these sounds to the inner ear via small vibrations of the skull.

The auditory system then takes care of the rest of the process, in order to deliver sounds along the auditory pathway to various regions of the auditory cortex. Bone Anchored hearing devices are indicated for individuals who have a conductive hearing loss or unilateral hearing loss, and allows your own inner ear hair cells to be stimulated naturally, for sound to travel along the auditory system.
