It’s Time to Focus on Hearing Health Care, not just Hearing Loss

February 8, 2018

I have the honour of having been elected President of the Canadian Academy of Audiology (CAA) for this year.  I have served as a volunteer on CAA for over 6 years now, as Committee Chair, Committee Co-Chair and Director on the Board and the Executive.  I am proud to be a part of an organization that was created to give Audiologists in Canada a voice and a sense of community.

This year, the theme for CAA is to drive the focus and messaging of our efforts on Hearing Health Care as a whole, and not just Hearing Loss.  If you’ve read any of my previous blog posts or have met me, you’ll know that this theme is completely in line with my own thoughts and philosophies on Hearing Care, and that I transfer the essence of this theme to all of the hearing services I offer at AudioSense.  Hearing Loss can affect all aspects of our lives.  Our connections with our loved ones.  Our opportunities at work.  Our ability to enjoy music, and more.  That’s why it’s important to take care of our Hearing throughout our lives and to protect our ears and auditory system from potential future damage.  We get a physical done at the Doctors every year.  We get our teeth cleaned at the dentist every year.  We get our eyes examined every year.  It’s important for us to get our hearing tested every year too.

With this said, enjoy reading my President’s message on CAA’s journal, the Canadian Audiologist.  I sometimes re-read it myself, because I find it inspiring to think about Hearing and Hearing Loss as Health Care.  And what is more important than taking care of your Health?  Your Hearing Health Care, that is…
