We recently analyzed our database and learned that the average age for hearing loss in adults is 42 years old, and the average age for hearing aids is 46 years old. This is in line with research that tells us that more than 45% of adults over the age of 40 suffer from a hearing loss that can be managed with a hearing aid. But, did you know that according to research, it takes an average of seven (7) years for adults with damage to their auditory system to visit an audiologist to get a hearing test and use a prescriptive device that could help them hear better?
Why so long?
Sometimes, it's because life happens. Other times, it's because any change to our auditory system happens slowly and gradually. Because our brain like be efficient and function optimally, it will do an amazing job at compensating for any loss of hearing. Nonetheless, seven years is a long time for your brain to listen to abnormal, degraded or damaged sound input from hearing loss! The consequences on the brain and on quality of life from having a hearing loss and not aiding it with a hearing aid are plentiful.
Hearing loss can lead to social isolation, depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, stress, auditory processing challenges, cognitive decline, increase risks of falls... the list goes on! Don't let hearing loss hold you back - let us help you!
