The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) is a provincial government program that provides income support and employment assistance to adults with disabilities in Ontario who are in financial need. ODSP recipients and their eligible dependants (spouse and children under 18) may qualify for the ODSP Hearing Aid Benefit, which provides additional financial assistance toward the cost of hearing aids and related items beyond what the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) covers.
To access hearing aid funding through ODSP, recipients must contact their local ODSP office and obtain pre-approval before purchasing. Eligible items may include hearing aids, hearing aid repairs, batteries, alerting systems (such as visual alarm devices), and protective earplugs, depending on what other funding is not available to cover those costs. ODSP hearing aid coverage is linked to the ADP framework, meaning the hearing aids must be on the ADP-approved product list and prescribed by a registered audiologist.
Families whose children are eligible for the Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities (ACSD) program may also access additional hearing aid support through ODSP channels. It is important to verify pre-approval before any purchase, as costs incurred without prior ODSP authorization may not be reimbursed. Audiologists can assist with the documentation required for the ODSP application process.
